Professor Gin Malhi

Gin holds a chair in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney. He is Head of the Academic Department of Psychiatry – Northern and Director of the CADE Clinic that is based at The Royal North Shore Hospital.
Having obtained degrees in Medicine and Pharmacology in the UK, he completed his psychiatry training in Cambridge and at the Bethlem and Maudsley Hospitals in London. He started research into mood disorders as a Clinical Lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry in London, and has since published over 700 articles, 10 books and more than 20 book chapters - and has been recognised internationally as a Highly-Cited Researcher.
He has been a Chief Investigator on National Health Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Program Grants for more than 15 years and also received competitive funding for research from the Australian Research Council, Australian Rotary Health, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Gin is Editor of Bipolar Disorders and Editorials Editor and Deputy of the British Journal of Psychiatry. He is also President of the International Society for Bipolar Disorders and a Visiting Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Oxford.
His recent awards include the RANZCP Senior Academic Researcher Prize, the RANZCP College Citation, the International Society of Bipolar Disorder (ISBD) Mogens Schou award for Education and Teaching, and Distinguished Professorial Achievement Award.
